Principium Somniferum
Principium Somniferum

Principium Somniferum is the first release by an Austere solo side-project under the moniker Freq. Magnet (prounonced "freak magnet", not "frequency".)

This guitar-only CD LP (Compact Disc, Long-Playing) album attempts to forge new ground in creating a blend best described as "shoegazing psychedelic ambient" and pushing the boundaries of "psybient", a term coined by The Mystifying Oracle to describe their attempts to bring together elements of various styles of psychedelic musick (ambient, rock, psy-trance, chanting, etc.) to the oft-predictable and overly-typecast "ambient" genre.

Created with the assistance of Venice Treacle and bolstered by the power of Space Echo, this CD moves in a direction similar to Austere's 2003 and 2004 CDs "Remission" and "Remittance" in focusing entirely on guitars (electric and bass), eschewing synths and drum-like percussion while seeking out a beatless and more trance-inducing, floating, other-worldly sounds. A moving, heady album (as contrasted to just a collection of tracks), listeners are drawn away to The Village in a place and time unknown to a unique experience that rides the border between drone rock, trance musicks and quiet instrumental ambient.

Available from Hypnos Online Store and CD Baby. You can visit their page to play all the musick samples or go to our Releases: Samples & Reviews page.
